EMMA'S BUTTERMILK PANCAKES

Picture
I just love making butter in a jar. It really conjures up so many fond childhood memories of my two older sisters and me all frantically shaking the jar to make butter. Mum used to milk the jersey cow every morning and we were treated to fresh milk and fresh cream. I think it is a fabulous skill for children to learn and beginning a curiosity about where our food comes from.

 HOMEMADE BUTTERMILK
  • 600 ml Bulla Thickened Cream
  • 1 jar & lid
  • Marbles

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk

TO SERVE
Any of the below and feel free to make up your own favourites!
  • Butter & maple syrup
  • Lemon & sugar
  • Fresh fruit & honey
WHAT TO DO
  1. Put the cream in the jar with 2 marbles and shake vigorously for 15 minutes until beautiful butter and buttermilk forms! A great way to keep kids entertained!
  2. To make the pancakes, combine the flour, salt, baking powder, egg and buttermilk together in a large bowl to form a batter.
  3. Heat a pan on the stove top and melt generous knobs of butter and pour in the batter. Once bubbles form, flip the pancake over to cook the other side.
  4. Serve with homemade butter and maple syrup! YUM!
